What next for ‘Del Boy’?
Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing took the show to the rich and famous of Monte Carlo on Saturday night, as he showcased some of his stable of fighters to the fans at the Casino de Monte Carlo.
Amongst the guests at the show were Roy Jones Jnr and the former Lineal Heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury, who is looking to make a return to the ring in 2018.
Fury’s former opponent Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora was a major talking point of the evening as he lost a majority points decision to European Champion Agit Kabayel. After failing to get out of first gear for the majority of the contest, Chisora struggled with Kabayel’s awkward style and took some big shots on his way to his eighth career defeat.
Looking a shadow of the fighter we saw against Dillian Whyte, Chisora only really stepped on the gas in the twelfth and final round when the two men went toe to toe as he landed some clean shots on a tired looking Kabayel.
As the bell sounded to end the contest it was the corner of the European champion who was celebrating, leaving Chisora and his team pondering whats next for him inside the ring.
Before the contest, many people had been demanding to see the rematch with Dillian Whyte but after the defeat, it looks like a long way off from happening as Whyte is looking to fight for world honors in 2018.
Chisora has been here before though and is definitely the comeback king. Losing 3 fights on the bounce in 2011/2012 against Robert Helenius, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye respectively, he went on to win his next 5 fights and get a big fight against Tyson Fury, before in more recent times he bounced back from defeat against Kubrat Pulev to get the Dillian Whyte fight which was definitely a fight of the year contender.
Personally, I don’t think Chisora is finished in the ring yet and still has something to offer but may have to take a drop down to British level in his next fight and then work his way back into contention for the bigger names of the Heavyweight division.
Let us know in the comments section what you think Dereck Chisora should do next? Should he hang up his gloves for good or is there still a lot more to give?…
