What next for Manny Pacquiao?

Following Manny Pacquiao’s shock loss to Australian Jeff Horn in Brisbane last night, we take a look at what could be next for the Philippine superstar.

Many saw the result last night as controversial, as they thought Pacquiao had done enough over the 12 rounds to edge the fight on points, but all 3 judges scored the fight in favour of Horn, with the scorecards reading 117 – 111, 115-113, 115-113.

Manny Pacquiao’s record now reads 59-7-2, and with a record of 5-4 in his last 9 fights his future inside the ring remains unclear.

In the build up to the contest, trainer Freddie Roach told the Guardian newspaper, that if Pacquiao did lose to Horn then he would encourage him to retire from the sport, and following the outcome it could be the route he takes. roach2014_1c065

Pacquiao, returned to the ring last year following a brief retirement, but has been trying to balance a boxing career and his duties as a senator back in the Philippines, and with the outcome of the fight with Horn, it has shown that trying to do both at the same time perhaps isn’t possible and Pacquiao will have to decide what route he wants to take in the future.

The other option potentially on the table for Pacquiao, is a rematch with Horn, who said in the post fight interviews that he would entertain a rematch with the Philippine superstar, and with the controversy surrounding the scoring of the fight, the rematch could take place to decide who is the WBO Welterweight king.

What should Manny Pacquiao do? Should he rematch Jeff Horn or should he hang up his gloves for good? Or should he fight on but get in the ring with someone else? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
