Good for boxing or just a money making event?
The super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Connor McGregor has been agreed and will take place on August 26th at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.
Both men took to social media to announce the fight, with Mayweather using the caption “Its official” after McGregor had posted “THE FIGHT IS ON” through his Twitter account.
The weight limit for the fight is 154lbs, and will be held under boxing rules. It will be the first time that UFC superstar McGregor will have fought in professional boxing, and he will be looking to ensure that he shocks the world and beats boxings number one attraction Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Mayweather, steps back inside the ring for the first time since he defeated Andre Berto via UD in September 2015, and will be looking to take his current record to 50-0 with a victory of the MMA superstar.
Negotiations for the fight have lasted some time, with both men demanding over $100m, and both insisting they are the A-side in this event.
With fight set to be aired on Showtime PPV in the United States, it is still unclear who will win the rights to showcase this event in the UK, but it is sure to do huge numbers as it brings the biggest names in both boxing and MMA together.
